Do motorcycle armor vests help? Do you wear them?

motorcycle vests–: Do motorcycle armor vests help? Do you wear them?
I’m thinking of getting a vest.. Is thus being paranoid, or do themajority if bikers actually armor vests ?

Most bikers wear vests, chaps etc, yes we have all seen the guy with shorts and a tee shirt. But this is not safe god forbid he lays the bike!

Its not really smart to wear one with just a shirt. They’re meant to be armor for your jackets. They sell elbow pads too.

I just saw an article in a magazine about how most stunters wear these for substituting a jacket, and that’s not a good at all. Think it was Cycle World or Motorcyclist, if that matters.

The only time I’ve ever worn anything with pads or armor in it is when I was on the dirt bike track (chest protector and knee pads). On the street I ride much safer and get by with a regular leather jacket. Most of my friends do the same. Every so often we will see someone on a new bike wearing one of those armored type vests or jackets. Obviously someone new and still getting used to the bike. Better safe than sorry, as long as you feel comfortable.
Remind yourself that no amount of padding will substitute for paying attention and riding safely.

I wear motocross armour under my dri rider jacket and knee armours under my leather trousers , and I wear back amour under my full one piece leathers . Over kill? no way ! The hands , feet, shoulders, elbows and knees should be fully covered at all times . I seen a fella lose skin in an instant and he was barely going 20kph .Straight through his jeans like it didn’t exist . Knew a fella . Came off at 90kph . Jacket rode up and he lost all the skin on his back . Spent the next 3 mths lying on his stomach . A person opened his car door just as a MC was going past . The motorcyclist lost his knee cap .Soon as I heard that , I went and bought the plastic knee pads , took out the soft knee pads from my leather trousers and I now strap them on under the trousers .On the road there is MORE reason to wear it . The cars ,trucks , poles, bitumen , curbs , etc . Does it make me feel better ?? Of course .Never assume it isn’t going to happen to you .
